One of the arguments a number of countries have levied against Canada's sovereignty claims in the north is that we don't have enough people there to defend our claim.

For what it is worth here it is. I don't have any for $ content, don't really ever intend to.

We foster* ferrets from a local shelter, usually the ones who can't be adopted due to health or behavioural (usually due to poor training and socialization) issues. Here are 3 of our current 9. See alt text for names and descriptions.

*We almost always keep them for the rest of their lives.

An academic should have been able to deduce that continued spread of the use of LLMs will modify* the training set of those same LLMs so they will asymptotically approach being trained on their own output, at which point the "quality of the prompt" won't matter at all.

*Resisting the word pollute.

Or watch through a Canadian network that licenses 60 Minutes by using a VPN. It won't be the first time citizens of a country with an authoritarian & censoring regime have gotten their information from another country. It used to be the US by VOA but I guess that's what Franklin was talking about.

* Since I haven't used it for anything yet, but we are also in the path of potentially 20mm of freezing rain and high winds and I need to get ready for power outages. I love living in the country, but it comes with conditions.

📌 Sticking a pin in this bc I have only read half of Erin's open letter and have a lot to say. Not an author, but as a technologist I have seen too much "we can't compete without ..." which has all turned out to be bullshit. Will see if I can come up with a full response on my Patreon page*.

One of the big reasons statements are misunderstood between STEM disciplines is different meanings attached to words; and naming things is hard, just watch a few pharmaceutical ads.

Blame Canada!

I sympathize, having to cancel your plans sucks. I also have undying respect that you are not going to risk infecting others (I know you are most concerned about parents, which is proper, but you are also protecting any others who's paths you may have crossed, so props for that too).

Also been in tech (and working with AI) since the 80s as well, this is the best TL;DR for LLMs that I have seen. Very difficult to disagree with in under 1,000 words.

Not a writer, but avid genre reader, also completed the survey. Appreciate the opportunity.

One thing that I think is most irritating (at least for me) is that new border regulations are basically saying "stay the fuck away, if you keep coming we will make it more difficult, dangerous, and disgusting to enter the US". It will take more than bourbon to wash that taste away.

Then there is the history of US unilateral military action success rate, the complexity of a NATO country invading two others.

The US has long been a protectionist state. The recent thaw doesn't change that, it has ever been problematic for their neighbours. There are other places to trade. 2/...

Interesting podcast. Each Canadian has their own assessment of each of the irritants. The whole invasion thing is, in my opinion, a non sequitur for Canada at least. Nuclear weapons would be off the table due to how much fallout would land in the states. 1/...
