Jayce’s eyes cut, for a moment, towards some of the others in animal masks. A lithe man with ornately done up hair lay in a cat mask, draped over a chaise lounge bedecked in a myriad of pillows. He rubbed behind the ears of his mask with a curled hand, yawning. Two in dog masks tousled with one another nearby on the ground, occasionally growling loud enough to gain the man–cat’s–attention. He felt his heart in his throat. Most of their collars had glistening tags from the rings on them. In the case of the cat, it was a fine, leather tag looped around an elaborately tied bow. They were pets that belonged to someone. He glanced at Viktor and for a brief, passing moment, felt sad.

If Viktor noticed, he had the wherewithal to keep the thought to himself. “I think half of the nobility of Piltover are here, if not more,” he remarked, almost under his breath. His gaze followed Jayce’s. “You can go play, if you want. I’m mostly here to watch.”

How very Viktor. They had discussed, of course, boundaries beforehand. But it was always different in the moment. Maybe he had hoped that Viktor would be a little more… possessive. Maybe he had hoped that his partner would tell him to stay at his heel all night. They’d practiced heel. He still wasn’t completely good at it, but he was working on it! It would be a great time to practice tricks with distractions. It ached, somewhere inside of him, that the other man seemed almost… disinterested.

“Maybe… a drink first.” A drink first and a nice...

Where it sat upon the too-fine tablecloth, the fingers of his right hand curled in slightly. The drape of his shoulders drew taut again and he righted the bend in his spine, as much as he was able to do so. “I believe you misunderstand, Jayce.” Though he choked down the intrinsic desire to call him Lord Talis, knowing how much that was nails down a chalkboard. Mel’s ministrations, stirring a light bit of milk into the dark tea, stilled. “Or should I deduce that you do not know what everyone knows–when it comes to what that means.”

this was very cute to write so i hope people enjoy the coziness before i publish horror week stuff. lmao.

a fanfiction promotional flyer with a christmas theme. the title reads COFFEE FOR CHRISTMAS: A JAYVIK HALLMARK SPECIAL. the summary reads: riginally it was the offer of a job at the local university that brought Jayce Talis to Mainspring--even if that ended up not working out for the recently divorced man looking to get back on his feet. What ended up working out was a small coffee shop in Historic Downtown Mainspring, where he gets to know the citizens of the city.

Then a new face appeared just days before Christmas, and Jayce found himself remembering what falling in love felt like. The only problem is that the man he's falling in love with might not love him back.

He didn’t want to watch Viktor place it on the luggage check in. He didn’t want to watch Viktor go, but he felt stupid saying anything about it.

Viktor’s fingers brushed his, even if there was a momentary hesitation, touch permitted to linger.

“Do you have everything?”

Jayce found himself entranced, each and every time, by the way the mole above his left lip lifted when he smiled. “Hmm. I think I forgot one thing.”

Viktor didn’t think he was particularly good at parent small talk, but with Jayce, for some reason, it did not feel like ‘parent small talk’. It felt like there was substance to it, something that was tangible and real and meant something. It was genuinely getting to know someone.

“I’ll stop keeping you from your dinner,” Jayce said after a short bout of conversation about school districts and local parks. Future places they could meet at. With that same winning smile that Viktor was getting quite used to, he gently dismissed himself back to his table with his daughter in his arms, back to Cait and Violet.

“See, dad,” Naph said at length, taking a bite of the child-sized hamburger meal he had ordered, “I told you you made a friend, too.”

A momentary pause, cutting a corner of the salmon filet. “I believe you may be right, Naph.” A spared glance in Jayce’s direction as he watched Violet playfully elbow him in the ribs, to which he gave an exaggerated response and Amaranthine laughed.
