this is the only mondrian that makes sense to me. maybe if i saw the others in person they'd speak to me, but this one i understand even through the screen.

there's an incredible amount of tension in it

technologies that don’t augment the mind are easily 'metabolised' by humanity at large. fire, the wheel, steam engine, spears—people master these easily. but no technologies that augment thought have been metabolised. (1/5)

God, the Lapidarist—a short vignette I wrote on Kant, the afterlife, and memory:

If there is an afterlife, I wish for it to be a curation of noumena.

it's interesting how certain artists seem to need to suffer to make Great Art, but others can make Great Art from a place of joy. consider for example trent reznor and steve reich. for the former type, joy and contentment brings about mediocrity

Senses are so different in the ocean. There's a hard limit to how far you can see, but every direction is just as important. You can touch the shadows of things that have moved past as they move past you and dissipate. You can hear across the world. Perhaps the only similar sense is smell.
Is anything worse than being a fish on the open ocean? There’s no cover. Everything has the same streamlined shape because there’s nothing to do but chase things to eat and run from things that want to eat you, which come at you from all three dimensions.

i've finished about 2/3 of 'platform' by houellebecq and it's funny, prescient even, re: islam in europe, sex tourism being a microcosm of the first world's relationship to the third world etc.
the problem with being so prescient is that it now reads like bronze age pervert-ist pablum
