Most of these news stories end up being PR for negligent and/or abusive parents, and I’m tired of it. Journalists need to change their approach. They know they’re not getting the full story due to privacy laws, so why are they still moving forward on this reporting?

I feel like there should be a journalistic standard that requires parents in these types of stories to allow the release of relevant medical/educational records to the news agency writing the story. It’s always like, “Well, the parents said one thing, and the school/doctor couldn’t legally comment.”

This might actually be the thing that makes me go full "Back in my day!" But seriously, back in my day, we didn't have the teacher walking us through reading strategies and offering supplements for comprehension, nor did we have a school-wide redo/retake policy for summatives! The kids will survive!
