Into my 12th season writing and talking about cycling, mostly women’s professional racing.
Ride bikes, play drums, love beer, have family.
Ours is just the Old (Delph) and New Bedford Rivers, built parallel to each other, running from Earith in Cambs and Denver Sluice in Norfolk.
The land between the two is called the Ouse Washes and is designed to flood to basically ensure Bedford and the Huntingdonshire towns don't.

Looking to buy a shirt to wear when playing a Halloween gig and Amazon's size chart is interesting...

Now, I'm not a skinny bloke, but my chest isn't 24 feet (7.3 metres) round and, at only 5ft 8in (1.7m) at least I wouldn't have to bend over to pick stuff up if my arms were 5 feet (1.4m) long.

Have the UCI forgotten there's a Women's WorldTour race on?

The Tour of Chongming Island started today, though, to be fair, the race has no website and the results website still only have the top 10, 90 minutes since Kathrin Schweinberger won.

Crikey! 3,500m of climbing in a 22.6km time trial, that's a proper test!

I had a similar argument once.
Bully on a train intimidating a person with brown skin about England football, he didn't belong as he didn't know any answers.
'Leave him alone,' I said.
'What you gonna do about it,' he whined.
'Carry on and find out.'

What's this all about at the Tour du Limousin?

I worked for Amazon in Cambridge and had to wear a coat in the office during the winter.
I hear during the recent UK heatwave people bought portable fans because the AC wasn't effective.
The fans weren't allowed as they had not been electrically tested.

Even though they'd been bought on Amazon.

Stowmarket, Southwold, Atherstone, this feels a LOT like an amalgam of editions of the Sweetspot organised Women's Tour.

Good to see the same old local authorities sticking by the sport.

I particularly like paying for this after watching the ads on the channel I pay so much to subscribe to.

Crikey, that's a headline.

This is interesting too, and something I know teams have been asking for.

Cambridge.
Ancient, world renowned city of learning.
Home of high tech industries, of world leading innovation.

Just don’t expect to ride your bike or drive your EV without it getting smashed to bits on third world roads.

Today's #giroditalia stage climbed the Muro di Ca'a del Poggio. In 2017 the women's peloton rode that same climb.

Stage 3 of the Giro Rosa, starting in San Fior and finishing in San Vendemiano, finished in a bunch sprint won by Hannah Barnes (now Bewley) of Canyon-SRAM.

On New Year's Eve 2021 I interviewed Anna Henderson, she was amazingly generous with her time, and incredibly open.

Here's what she said about descending, lifted straight from the interview transcript

I enjoyed commentating on Festival Elsy Jacobs today.
A very strong but even cleverer sprint from Marta Lach to take the win.
Close though.

UK government website.
Till?
I think you mean until or ‘til.
It’s got nothing to do with shop cash registers.

If you've just watched the Tour of the Alps, then the picture on my profile page is of the same place.
Nicer weather when the Giro Donne was there in 2022 though.

I was just looking for something I wrote back in 2020 and found this.
It was for CyclingTips, sadly no more, though its spirit lives on at @escapecollective.bsky.social.

I enjoyed writing it, thanks to both Brodie Chapman and Julie Van de Velde for speaking to me.

The 2025 Tour of Flanders women's race was the longest ever, by five kilometres, but it wasn't the fastest.

That honour goes to Chantal van den Broek-Blaak's 2020 win, when she covered the 135.6km at 38.75kmh

This year was the fastest edition over 140km though, the 168.9km covered at 38.304kmh.
