1. Please read this thread. It could make a difference to your health.
Before I went away, I had a strange, persistent tingling in the soles of my feet. When I looked it up, there were some benign explanations, and some alarming ones. I resolved to see the doctor when I returned. 🧵

A Magellanic penguin is today's #penguinpicoftheday #PPOTD, which live in burrows in proximity to sheep (at least they were in the Falkland Islands/Las Malvinas)... a fact that, upon observation, caused me to do a double take.

NEW: 2024 has just been confirmed as the warmest year on record, and the first to breach the 1.5C threshold.

We used a ridgeline (Joy Division inspired) chart to visualise daily temperature anomalies since 1940.

2024 clearly stands out with 100% of its days above 1.3C and 75% above 1.5C.

The #penguinpicoftheday #PPOTD is of… little penguins! Well, they are little penguin chicks. Little little penguins, as it were. Anyway, they are a few weeks old right now, and we’re pretty docile when we opened up their home to inspect today.

The #penguinpicoftheday #PPOTD is of 10 emperor penguin tracks - an update on our research! This is where the birds have gone since November: >1000 km, in some cases, from where they started. What's even better is three of the birds seem to have found each other after all that way.

Also. Look at that chick. Need I say more.
