Further down the mountain, the newly built (many years ago) but never used bathroom is still around.

I haven’t been out to the old Terdreka Settlement (得樂的卡) in Maolin in a long while. The place looks decent. There’s also a new (to me) house built on a lower level that you can go inside. Nice day for a visit. #Taiwan

Took my new F6 out for a spin kinda deep into the mountains last night. I really don’t recommend cranking the headphone gain when it’s pitch black out there. A little 🐸 jumped in front of my mic stand and kg sounded like a bear was coming for me. 🤣 #FieldRecording

I’m curious which stereo configuration you prefer? I’m trying to get a wide open, expansive sound. These were recorded between noon and 2pm in the Taiwan mountains at 845m elev. Headphones or proper speakers would be best. Link in next post. #FieldRecording

Drove to the mountains for an easy ride and to test out some mic configurations. The ride was tough. The road up was no longer a road. I pushed uphill and managed to reach a suitable location. Cicadas were an issue. But what to do. 🤷‍♂️ Took an experimental hunter’s route back down. I’m alive.

Ah, found it. 飛機餅. I stay away from them. Just eat one and the whole bag will be finished in short order. I swear they put crack in them.

I’m demoing this now. Really not sure what to think. Everything I EQ’d in the past now sounds a bit too shrill or overly EQ’d. Do I trust this thing or dial it back a bit? I do have hearing issues from years of DJ’ing with tinnitus on top of it. What to do, what to do…😕

It has taken a couple of months, but they’ve gotten around to tearing them apart.

My son travelled up to Yilan today to try and find a steam train. I’d say he did pretty good! Not and for a 13 year old. Better than me at least.

Thanks for the pics. Yeah, I was hoping to avoid punching holes in my old backpack so I bought this new one with zippers on the sides that can hold the mics in place without the clips.

Trying out a pair of Earsight V2 mics for stealth recording. I bought them so I can attach to a backpack for onboard train ambience. I can’t get them so high up in this bag. One limitation I’m finding is their max SPL (110db). Some low end bumps on trains distort them. 😕 #FieldRecording

Another milestone I guess. Numbers aren’t accurate cuz I’m using pounds and kilos.

Last night was “tunnel recording night”. Some of these tunnels have some huge sounding reverberations. The trains above made some great sounds. The police showed up at one of them asking what I was doing. He seemed a bit nervous. 😂 All ended well. #fieldrecording

See if you can guess which one is me. Hint: it’s not the guy, woman, or dog. 😄

Spent the last 3 to 4 hours removing the birds from this recording. Oh the joy…😵‍💫

It has taken a lot of work after my lower back injury, but I’ve managed to get my squat back to a number that I’m only slightly embarrassed of. 😂 it went up smooth as butter. Probably have another 20kg or so left in me. But didn’t wanna push it.

On the way to Chaozhou yesterday my son asked me to take a detour to look at a bunch of old train cars (EP 106) at a junkyard he found on google maps. We talked to the owner. He said they’ll be scrapped in September. He said my kid could take off whatever he wants to keep.

Here are those EMU100 train cars awaiting destruction at the Chaozhou Rolling Stock Depot. My son just had to have a look. #Taiwan

In Taiwan, everything’s got corn in it.

How many #Fieldrecording ppl out there use Cedar Retouch? I'm on my first hour of my trial and I'm blown away. It has quickly removed sounds I spent hours trying to remove in RX and Spectralayers. I might have to drop the $400. But seriously, can the interface be any crapier? 1/2

If you have time, head on out to a train station near you and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to see them. They just now left Qidu station.

My son pushed me to come with him on this trip. He was quite excited. Now we get to chase it down, pass it, then get off a few stops later and take pics again. 😄

Today marks the end of an era. These train cars (not the engine) are the last set left over from the first electric trains introduced in Taiwan, the EMU100, back in 1978. They’ve been out of service for a while. This will be their final journey on their way to Chaozhou to be scrapped.
