One option would be to accept the loss and focus on salvaging the chips that fell out. These could be the interim product, rights, processes, new knowledge or know-how, etc. But one type of loss is nearly impossible to recover—the one that results in reputation loss.

The only constant is change, in technology, markets, micro and macro (economic, political, insert any adjective) conditions and landscapes. Organizations will review their partnership pool at least yearly, reaffirm or dissolve alliances, and make sure they work. Otherwise (an adage), what’s a point?

The change in the organization’s direction and strategy will affect its partnerships. The events of recent days, weeks, and months illustrate that even if mutual commitments were confirmed as late as April, today they are not worth the paper they were written on.
