I'm re-drafting a fantasy novel, the first in what will at some point be a trilogy. It's a steampunk political fantasy featuring dragons, magical engineers, and a cult that plans on overthrowing the Government House.

There is no stopping AI. That much is a given. Progress will slow for no-one. What can be done, however, is to bring awareness to its most useful applications, and as a society create pressure for those to be where AI is implemented most, rather than as a surveillance tool in every device out there.

but the way it is currently being introduced to the general public is NOT it. I fear the impacts of tightening IP legislation will make art more inaccessible, but I completely understand the need for people to protect their work from being pirated by a machine of all things.

AI is still so shitty it takes about as long to fix whatever it does spit out.) For instance, here's an example of where AI has actually reduced the carbon impact of farming parsnips:

AI is just a symptom of late-stage capitalism, particularly in how it's being dished out to consumers and sold. If it were genuinely used as a solution and not a shitty cash-grab, there would be more focus on honing the things it is actually good for, more care about the maintenance of the data sets
