Text reading: It sat on windowsill behind her desk, precariously close to falling out any time she climbed out onto the roof, its tiny matchstick legs supporting a delicate frame made with a length of thin wire and a scrap of linen that had almost frayed to pieces. The wings accounted for more than double the length of the body each, and were about half as wide as the distance nose-to-tail. She’d thrown it across the room in ‘test flights’ that certainly hadn’t been aimed at Kester’s head while they’d been writing up a report. It flew well, balanced better than many of her previous attempts, and even caught lift when a gust blew inside the attic, its tiny wings tilting against the draft and narrowly missing getting caught up in Kester’s hair before colliding with the wall behind their desk.
