Former wingnut here who spent many hours taking care of fussy overbred fighter aircraft. Even if performance is comparable between the two types, you have to look at lifecycle, parts, and cost per flight hour before you can make any rational acquisition decision.

Yup, it's a hardship. I would love to see blue-state universities set aside scholarships for students from Florida, Texas, and other benighted states to pursue 'forbidden' studies.

I lived in the Portland OR area for 12 years without a car. Loved the simplicity and the cost savings. On the rare occasion when it was needed, we'd call Lyft. Otherwise, it was light rail and buses and eventually an e-bike.
