Let's ignore that I had to unscrew the board to put in two screws I missed on the hot end. And then had to unscrew the toolhead cover to replace the nozzle. And then do it again to put the silicone sock on the hot end. Other than that, super smooth!

Those upgrade parts are of course in addition to the replacement parts for the old printer, which included the same nozzle, the new version hotend PCBA board, and the unicorn hotend with cilps. I'll check what the new printer has and see about ordering spare parts from there.

With the new K1 Max, I ordered the following upgrades: A brass E3D unicorn nozzle (multi-channel), the upgraded DXC extruder, and a BIQU CryoGrip Pro Frostbite cold plate. Yes, I'm still giving the cold plate a chance, even if I have to use *some* heat to get large prints to stick.

What's frustrating is that Creality has upgraded the K1 series toolhead board with better hot end connectors, so now you have to pay attention to which hot end you get, as it may or may not have connectors for your board.

My current schedule has me working basically full time, but at least it's something I can do here in my office. I won't be streaming again for the foreseeable future. I estimate that it will take until Spring 2027 to pay off my existing "minor" debts (excluding student loan debt).

IT'S PREPARING!

The printer spent at least 3 hours with its gears grinding on stuck filament so it's not surprising that there's gear-related extrusion issues. I held out some hope that the gears were fine, but apparently not. This print failure has resulted in over $145 in replacement parts so far.

Frankly, the "why" doesn't matter. What matters is Walmart not updating the order so that I can know when to expect the item. Had I known it wouldn't arrive until the 10th, I would have had the opportunity to cancel and get the item elsewhere. But they don't want to lose the order. Total shitshow.

It is okay to have run out of stock and delay orders for the next round of inventory. Just be up front about it instead of saying the item will arrive on the 5th, then ghosting on the order and then blatantly lying about the cause of the delay.

Contacted Walmart about this order and apparently the item has shipped and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. They will update the order "soon" so I can see that on my end. I was told they delay was due to a "payment authorization issue." I paid with Affirm (which I've paid off), so that's BS.

I do not believe this was a failure of the new hotend. It was a casualty of bad printer design and my own error in placing too much trust in the machine on a large print I haven't tried with the new setup yet.
