Hmm, that one doesn't play for me ...

My point is that it is still called insurance, because it is.
November 15, 2025 at 2:48 PM
That's a special case, and it's quite alright that it works that way.

However, if you have a job, you make monthly mandatory payments (shared between you and your employer) to a public insurance organization, the amount depending on your income.

The system was introduced by Bismarck in 1883 (!)

In Germany, we call it "Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung", meaning mandatory health insurance, by law.

Pooling is the principle of insurance. Share the load.

Commercial insurers do this too, but in trying to maximise their gains they have to minimize the reimbursements.

That's the central difference to a publicly-held 'pool' (plus of course stringent regulations for costs in the latter case).

Surely that will make the United States MUCH safer ...

Then we are in agreement. Note that I'm used to public healthcare because Germany and all countries in Europe have it.
Sometimes people are grumbling about it, but the point stands that there is a reasonable level of services, with price control, so that we aren't driven to poverty when falling ill.

Universal healthcare IS insurance. Just not profit-oriented.

In der Tat. Da wackelt das Gleisbett.

Praktisch jeder Cargo-Train muss durch eine Ehekrise - zunächst herrscht Gütergemeinschaft, dann folgt aber unweigerlich eine Gütertrennung ...

An insurance (public or private) is a risk- and cost-sharing device, preventing sudden steep liabilities in case of immediate needs.

If you cut out commercial insurance providers, you need a public replacement. Healthcare simply doesn't work without it.

He does NOT say "Get rid of the insurance companies".

Where are people going to get their health care from when they receive direct payments?

We are lucky to have kept major wood areas in Germany. On a trip to an area close to the eastern border I met one of these ('Baummarder' in German, meaning tree marten).

Apparently you are not up to date. He has campaigned for Sherrill and Spanberger.

Because they are consuming news that are deliberately selective and misleading, stirring up diversion and hate.

Then social media is doing away with any leftovers of common sense.

Oh, but it's really four-dimensional chess, you know!
November 7, 2025 at 5:47 AM
What if you are really poor and stuck in a state like Texas or Florida, with no means to leave?
November 6, 2025 at 6:44 AM
It should be clear from all history we know that this doesn't work.

Capitalism is essential, but it must be harnessed.
November 6, 2025 at 6:41 AM
Also Germany, to an extent.

Capitalism has to be regulated. It's essential but there has to be a balance, and the long-term stability eventually helps the economic climate.

Statistics are saying that the rate of accidents is higher when morning commute is in darkness.

Perfect fly-by!

Did you pay it to do that?

It's obvious. Turns out that the U.S. constitution relies on well-behaving instead of enforcement.
