not really a proper fic for #bottomjokerweek2025, but the idea hit me just now as i was looking at today’s prompts and wouldn’t let me go until i wrote it down
Maruki’s Palace still has a way of keeping them on their toes. Just as they are reaching the end of what Oracle is telling them must be the final area, a new enemy enters the tray. Before they can truly react, it hits them with an unfortunately familiar spell. “Oh no, Joker’s been hit with l-lust! ...Annnd there goes Crow, too!” Lust? Mentally, Makoto shrinks. The last time they had to deal with this terrible status effect was in their desperate stand against the God of Control. And it was only Makoto who had debased herself, useless and clinging to their leader. She refuses look at them. However the ailment debilitates them, she can let them retain their dignity, at least. She has worse things to worry about, anyway: with their leader benched, Makoto is now in charge, and with two of their strongest hitters down for the count, too. “Wait, are they… getting closer to each other?” Ann’s voice rings out, foreboding. “Dude!” Dodging a blow, Makoto’s attempts to ignore them grow more insistent. Unfortunately, the peanut gallery refuses to let her stay ignorant. “Oracle, are you quite sure that this is… lust?” Noir asks in an uncertain voice. “It has to be!” Mona exclaims. “Guys, I don’t know what’s happening, either!” A throaty chuckle from Joker forces her to glance at the afflicted pair – and a wave of red and black sweeps past her vision. Joker’s back-flipping form crosses the platform, hounded by Crow’s relentless blade. “Joker…” Crow purrs in his nastiest voice, making the hair at the back of Makoto’s neck stand. “Won’t you quit dodging and let me hit you already?”
