The trade war continues. He paused some tariffs, others continue, and he raised China's. Congress gave too much tariff power to the executive over the years, and some, including several Republicans, are trying to claw some of it back.

He didn't surrender, just announced a pause on some of the tariffs. He's going to continue to yo-yo the stock market. Mob shakedown still in progress. Ugh!

At this point in the PR campaign, bad optics in the form of property damage and violence are ill-advised. The peaceful nature of the protests is gathering more support domestically and abroad, as press coverage is favorable. Also, protests are only one form of resistance; others are in play.
