A 60 unit origami kusudama based on a rhombicosidodecahedron.
Designed by Khin Hooi.
Folded by me.
Tutorial linked below.
My first time making a modular from more than 30 units.
It was much more difficult to keep track of whether the right number of flaps come together at a given point but very fun.

Helo friends!
I finished this model on Thursday and was intending to post it on Friday but I got super busy with preparations for an upcoming origami workshop.
The scorpion has been completed just in time to bring it along with me. 😁
It uses a meandering symmetry line technique.
(More in alt text).

It may be looking like zero progress today, but I had limited time, and the time I had was spent on fixing my sins from yesterday.
Every time things seem to be going smoothly, every time the process feels like a breeze, it's because I'm doing something wrong and not realizing. 🤣
More tomorrow.

This one in particular is Thai 'kozo' paper with mango leaf inclusions, which I then glued a layer of aluminium foil onto one side.

It's like a much fancier substitute for regular tissue-foil which is thinner but weaker & bleaches in the sun over time.

I think I caught the proverbial bug again. 🤭

A work in progress of my latest origami model - a scorpion.

I've been folding this piece of paper since Sunday but I've just been adding more folds to a flat piece of paper (Precreasing).

Most of the visible progress has happened today.

Trying to catch the tail end of #Spectember with this little piece of @fabioaleromero.bsky.social fanart.
A solifuge scorpion in paper form.
Not perfect by any means but very fun.
Could also be seen as an early entry for #Spooktober.
I'm ready. 🤭

Solifuge scorpion WIP #2.
(Working on the layout since the 23rd).
It doesn't look remotely as similar to the source material as I had hoped, but it looks much better than I thought it's going to once I saw the base coming together in real life and realized all my miscalculations.

New origami WIP.
I've been struggling with burnout for the past few months so I definitely felt rusty.
The inspiration for this piece came from a spec creature by @fabioaleromero.bsky.social called a solifuge scorpion, but due to my miscalculations it's not going to look right.
More photos tomorrow.

One day I'll learn to include images in these things.
Here is a little teaser/background information:

Sending a signal to @teafrancis.bsky.social with a plea for a spider ID. 🥺🕷️
Little thing was about the size of a pinkie nail in leg span as pictured.
Apologies for the poor image quality. 😵‍💫🫣

Post a bird to celebrate 1,000,000 users on BlueSky. 🪶

I've done it before and I'll do it again!

Just realised I've got a sea-going bird for this occasion too!

The Cretaceous Hesperornis!

I do have some origami flowers to offer as something at least tangentially related to the intended topic. ☺️

Continuing on with showing more origami from my collection after a little break.
Dragons are my happy place.
I've made so many of them over the years I've lost count.
I love the freedom of not having to worry about any anatomy and just going by the 'rule of cool' & letting imagination fly. 😆

This is what I was able to learn so far.
The black and white is largely due to it being effective camouflage, the red is essentially to say "look at me, woodpeckers, I'm an adult woodpecker now, have babies with me".
Other interesting point is diet.
Bird pigments are tied to what food the birds eat.

Last #InverteFest post from me, an origami model of a wheel bug (Arilus cristatus).
I have only learned about the existence of this critter through my interest in origami.
My first encounter with this critter was seeing Seth Friedman's recreation of it in paper form and wanted to make my own. 😅
September 3, 2023 at 11:48 AM
Origami molluscs for #InverteFest.
A giant clam (Tridacna gigas) in a few iterations (I just wanted to have more than one, and I've used different kinds of paper in various colors and sizes to make things more fun for myself) and a couple belemnites.
As always, more in alt text.

With #InverteFest inevitably coming to an end in a few hours, it's time to post the current crowning jewels of my paperfolding journey, a vinegaroon and an Asian forest scorpion.
Both of these models represent a major major milestone for me, they utilize structures with a meandering symmetry line.
September 2, 2023 at 9:00 PM
More origami arthropods for #InverteFest.
Paper beetles and friends to spice things up a little bit.
A giraffe weevil, a collection of stag beetles, a tiger beetle & a silverfish couple.
These models span quite some time over my paperfolding journey and represent a range of difficulty levels too.
