Most of what I write on here is cringe which is why I get rid of it monthly more or less. But I sort of follow the cereal box rule: If a kid is reading the cereal box, let the kid read the cereal box.
If someone who writes is writing the TL, let them write the TL. Even if it is me & cringe.
We don’t have to “imagine” or “reimagine” so many things — we need to acknowledge the positive deviants — those of us already living outside of systems others see as inevitable

I just went to Portland, ME. It’s not far but there is rarely a reason. Even though my town has cops — and lots of them — it always reminds me of my months of no-cops in 2020 in rural ME & VT.

It’s not normal to have an occupying force. We don’t need cops. Abolish the police. All of them.

I’ve been writing these love letters — this one in particular that I think is now “done”

And my good activist thought was: how do I make this accessible?

But I think i am: how do I model or accompany someone going through weeks, months, years, and decades to get to a single letter w no “outcome”

The wild thing, looking back at electoral work, is you have to raise $250K+ to basically get someone a job

At best they do a mediocre job at that job

At worst they enact policy violence and kill your friends & comrades

On the democratic side

You just asked me for feedback in a document that does not allow people to give feedback.

Good morning to all the unpaid organizers in my feed. I love you.

Also there is a wild LinkedIn post where people are talking about only having done/doing social justice work because they are paid for it. Some heavy players for decades and I did not know. I mean, you could be paid to do other things. Stop running foundations with a *potential* of leftist good

I’ve done a lot of work being “the bridge” between communities without ever being welcomed into community. That labor has taken it’s tool. And I’m grateful for each experience I’ve had because I’ve grown incredibly but it’s been very lonely hard work. And it’s happening again.

The vote came after an hour of comments from St. George residents who filled both an upstairs meeting room and a meeting room in the lower level of the town office. The town had video and audio equipment to allow people on the lower level to be heard by the Board in the upstairs meeting room. #Maine

Maybe living isolated without income, cops, healthcare, has been good for me in ways I couldn’t see. It is really painful but I knew I could do it for 5 years — I counted on others also doing it for 5 years so we would have fewer airborne illnesses but also be in a place with fewer cops given 2020.

Also to get through this nightmare with the calm I did feels like I gift of practice for things to come. I have not handled all with such ease.

Also, I am exhausted.

I’m slow to get things — and by get things — I mean deeply comprehend them in some connecting level within and beyond myself but on mornings like these I am both grateful for my ability to be patient with myself over years, and hope others are giving me grace and committing to their own unlearning

I’ve had nightmares all night and each time I wake I’m convinced that getting a paper planner is the answer

As I write this, I realize how terrible the proton calendar actually is

When you tell people the way they can get paid work is to have these “portfolios” of un and low-paid work first we end up with a lot of duplicative “experiments” on-the-ground that are more failed corporate than movement

Seriously is the use of “Reply To All” some new organizing joke that is lost on me?

My heart: loving curiosity
My always-on thought bubble: ghouls

And also drive unsafe cars & trucks & other moving things
A huge chunk of Americans absolutely do not understand how people too poor to own a car live in places without public transportation.

I was just thinking of the African call & response tradition as it has related to my experience as a US activist in so many ways and why ghosting is such a gut-punch in this tradition

People, especially but not only Black activists, put out calls and others literally scroll by
