“I do understand what’s going on in our prisons & society right now, but I worry about these people who have a lot of problems and are being released without a lot of support…” “What’s worse? Keeping them in jail or releasing them back into a life that got them into jail in the first place.”

Look what came out today… onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

“We … find that the effect presented in Hogan occurs only in certain model specifications and other decisions that maximize the reported effect of de-prosecution on homicide counts.”
De‐prosecution and death: A comment on Hogan (2022)
A recent article presents a synthetic control model showing de-prosecution in Philadelphia in the mid to late 2010s greatly increased the city's homicides. We point out several potential problems wit...

When we center survivors, we transform justice.
True reform means humanizing everyone involved, both survivors and those who’ve caused harm. Because healing, repair, and accountability are only possible when we move beyond “us vs. them.”

“Philly detectives are solving homicides at the highest rate in 40 years as violence plummets and tech improves

Still, nearly 800 killings between 2021 and 2023 have yet to result in an arrest, according to an Inquirer analysis.”

There have been very few arrests for drug possession—or any drug offense—in Philly this year to date (YTD), relative to this same date in years past (see pic)

We also have fewer homicides YTD than in any year since 1965. ❤️

These septa cuts are not a short term issue as impact of this political attack on young Philadelphians will endure. They don’t want kids from Philly to have the tools to succeed so that they can put them in their prisons instead. That’s what they want, and this must be responded to accordingly.

Research on front page. Housing. Rental assistance. RCT. Big impact.

Philly first in nation. Hopefully we keep this energy and scale this up!

Lots of incredible RCTs out of Philly showing non-law enforcement approaches—this, greening, lights—work

I sometimes like looking at Reddit threads that are a few days old because by then there has been some sort of resolution.

Here’s one I just saw. Someone recognized him from gym and gave management ultimatum re whose membership they valued more. Nazi cancelled.

Line graph showing local jail population each year. After initial drop below 5,000 in first year of Krasner administration, population stayed below 5k.

We went below 4,000 in April 2020 w/ COVID-era efforts, but above 4,000 in 2021, 22, 23, 24.

Population has been under 4,000 for much of 2025
