Thomas Goss's profile on Bluesky for the Orchestration Online Community-at-large. I will post the occasional personal info or photo, but I'll mostly focus on new content and sharing resources.
Hi everyone! I'm announcing this today across the community (and I already mentioned it in a video on YouTube). When I first announced my sale back in late September, I messed up the final date - so I'm just extending the deadline a couple more weeks, through to midnight P.D.T. Monday 3 November.

Glück's approach to clarinet in his early operas: hundreds of bars of them mostly doubling the oboes. It shows, as cautious as Mozart was with clarinets in his operas, how he was still decades ahead by comparison.

THE MOST INCREDIBLE GESTURE AN AUDIENCE CAN EVER SHOW TO AN ORCHESTRATOR... after 2+ hours of listening to Signature Choir sing with my orchestrations with Sydney Symphony, the audience sings a karakia of thanks to the performers.

Preview of coming attractions: spectrum analysis of separate and combined bassoon and flute played two octaves apart. Tip covering several 2+ octave woodwind combinations dropping in a week or so.

A place I've always wanted to visit - and now my first time here will be watching 2+ hours of my own orchestrations. Thank you Jadrah, Helen, and everyone at Signature Choir and Sydney Symphony Orchestra! ♥️

...generated in the minds of youthful performers over the past half a century or so. This well matches the tongue-in-cheek lyrics of the medieval poet (or poetess) and the musical setting's knowing hilarity...

Back in New Zealand again. The dawn is there to greet me after my 13-hour flight; along with Venus and a new moon.

A few lovely instruments I recorded on my brief visit to California - as played by the masterful Daniel Norris. Yes, this is for another orchestration course down the road a ways...

The concert went awesomely well. Like Beatlemania, the screaming and applause toward the end. But also respect, love, and listening during the softer moments. I love my Pasifiki audience, they are the best! ♥️ Shout-out to NZSO, APO, Signature Choir, Helen Tupai, Jadrah Tupai, and Brent Stewart.

The first batch from my triple-graft dwarf apple tree: Royal Gala, wonderfully crisp and sweet (1/3rd of that variety produced, I munched the rest off the tree as they ripened over the past 2 weeks). I'll give the Golden Delicious another week, and then finally the Braeburn at the end of the month.

Because when you think about it, here's a player sitting behind a set of toms, 3-4 different cymbal options, snare drum, woodblocks and/or cowbell, triangle, etc. each of which could be used separately or in combinations - and that doesn't even rule out the kick if used judiciously.

So relieved and grateful! I love you, New Zealand! ♥️🇳🇿

Here in New Zealand, we have volcanos. Big ones. You can see some of them many miles away. This is Mt. Taranaki as seen from Shannon, 125 miles (201km) to the south, during a perfect sunset.

Not on Bluesky to plug my orchestration tips books necessarily. But recently I've gotten a ton of requests regarding a student discount. While I can't admin that, I can hold a sale for everyone that helps composers on a tight budget. So here it is. Links in the replies below.

A lovely little consort of medieval players rocking out over the castle walls, in a detail from the title image of tomorrow's Carmina Burana score analysis covering Song V: Ecce Gratum. I love the double shawm player.
