I think the latter half of the anime also gets so much hate/ distaste. Mello is a really good mirror for Kira and Near is a version of L that is not gay for Light.

Also the lens choice, the angles, and the sheer CLOSENESS the camera has to the actors makes it feel like found footage. It’s more sickening than any horror film I’ve seen in years. To the point of spilled ketchup on a white shirt making me really uneasy
