I don't think that's a useful definition of authoritarianism, no matter what common usage of the term might be. And you haven't done anything to refute Engels, just asserted he's wrong and rejected his argument on the basis that you disagree with that definition.

I mean, no it isn't. Why is exercise of power that leads to bad results authoritarianism but exercise of power that leads to good results ... something else? Does the word authoritarian add any value if it just means bad things have happened? you know you can just say "these things were bad", right?

You are reading Engels correctly, but you're missing his point that authority isn't inherently bad. You're just saying "it's not authoritarian if I like the results".
