I've been struggling for 3 days trying to make sense out of the concepts of "rule of recognition" and of "criteria of membership" of a legal system. It has been a nightmare, but I found (momentary) relief in noticing what seems to be a mistake in Bulygin's concept of the criteria of membership.

Holy crap. The DOJ is arguing that the President can unilaterally deport anyone he wants without ANY statutory authority, just on his inherent authority as President over national security.
That is a terrifying claim to make and not one that has ever been recognized before in US history.

Qu'en 2024, une institution publique vectrice de normes linguistiques véhicule des prises de position homophobes me laisse pantois. Même si le travail de l'Académie n'est pas à prendre au sérieux, c'est grave. Une raison de plus de la supprimer.

I really think at its heart philosophy is one giant battle, taking place over many eras and nations, between people who are basically pleasant bureaucrats and people who are sexy murder poets, and it’s both super important and super boring that the pleasant bureaucrats must win.
