It was always funny to me that even when the media tried to give the topic some balance they’d usually say something by like “inflation is high but it’s coming down”. It wasn’t *coming* down; it had already come down and was stable there for a year!

They’re also ashamed of appointing the Fed chair that oversaw a genuinely miraculous soft landing

But hard to see significant cuts if long-term inflation expectations play out. Not an easy situation either way. Fed probably have to tune out a lot of the sentiment stuff and just look at the data as it comes in.

And pretty soon we’ll be able to say the same about Powell, the other major “Orange Man… good?” decision.

Related: lots on the right who pass the “How would you feel if you didn’t eat breakfast?” test not because they can grasp hypotheticals but because they read a post about it and learned the ‘smart person’ answer

Idk what’s so hard to understand about the idea that many people don’t need a checked bag, and so would choose a ticket without one included even if the price difference is only marginal.

I wouldn’t say that it’s running out of establishment figures, but rather Trump being the face of a movement for eight years led to the creation of a new establishment on the right modeled after his outward image.

Literature’s already had it’s weird winners. Give one of them the prize for chemistry

I don’t think this case is an example of the Americanism that does happen elsewhere. Makes sense to me that the FT refers to football clubs the way they refer to other businesses.

Some people will hate this but sort of McMansionsy. Heavy use of recognizable elements from traditional architecture but across a range of “traditional” styles and not necessarily within the rules of how those elements are used within the style they came from.

But is it high or low?

A lot less fun but reminds me that the FT used to have a guy whose only job was to buy and put out a copy of the Evening Standard on every editor’s desk

“Three goals on 1.44 xG? A little abnormal sure but it’s hardly one of the mo- Ohhhhh!”

Eh unfortunately the Trump-supporting version includes the guy who wrote and sang lead on most of the hits

If it was anyone else, even a more racist figure, then “weird stuff happens” is a plausible explanation.

But with Musk, you know that he said “Wouldn’t it be so EPIC if I snuck a Nazi salute into the inauguration?”

Also not even just a “donor” - he gave money to Trump himself via Truth Social, not just the campaign

Yes it does. It helps justify the firing by showing that what he said is incompatible with his job.

Don’t have to lead with the crown to be targeting if the player being hit is catching the ball. “Forcible contact to the head or neck area” + leading with the head, shoulder or arm against a defenseless player is targeting.

Interesting the extent to which “inflation data doesn’t include food or housing” has taken hold. A lot of people seem to really believe this
