The authoritarian threat is serious, and people should take it seriously.

AND the threat is under-resourced and full of incompetents who got their job because they put breaking the law for Trump above personal integrity or fear of consequences.

Push the regime beyond its limits and it'll break.

Once upon a time (2019), Trump faced off with a real authoritarian strongman. The actual dictator ate him for breakfast and spit out the pieces he didn't like.

I helped clean up the mess.

Trump's no strongman.

And there isn't much he can do to fix things before the midterms. Tariff damage is going to accrue, economic fall-off is going to accrue, redistricting is going to accrue, and lost court cases will continue to accrue. If they totally changed tact today it wouldn't impact enough by midterms.

Two engines of MAGA were destined to collide at inception:
1. Ideology (cruelty, hatred of others, grift/lying);
2. Incompetence (rank stupidity, deliberate ignorance, incapacity to govern rationally).
The collision is complete.
Incompetence has “strongly”prevailed, which should end the Ideology.

I didn’t say he was going to jail and neither did JVL. But this authoritarian project seems to be on pretty shaky ground after a year. If you’re going to institute an authoritarian regime, you have to move fast.

And today we had the Comey prosecution getting practically laughed out of court. So many of these things represent pushback from the opposition, but also, equally as important, utter incompetence on their part. Y’all are worried about fascism, but incompetence & stupidity is their Achilles heel.

SCOTUS is the biggest concern. But if the Comey case ends how I expect it to, it will dissuade lawyers from going along with Trump's lawless schemes. Who wants to risk disbarment for him?

The thing about authoritarians is that most of them are followers who want to be told what to do and what to think. Vance, Trump Jr, Miller - they're all clowns with no ability to persuade anyone with their "charisma".
