I wrote a little about the Red Cross visit to the Theresienstadt ghetto during WWII a while ago. This stunt with Garcia couldn’t be more on the nose
When rumors of the Holocaust started to leak, they allowed the Red Cross to come in to the Theresienstadt ghetto to see that their prisoners were being treated well. They deported some of the population to other camps to make it seem less crowded. They added theatres and instructed those left in the camp in how to act and what to say during the visit, and once it was concluded they continued the deportation of Jews to death camps like Auschwitz while the world deliberated whether what they were shown was true, or whether what they were hearing and seeing of their own volition was true.

There’s danger in the air but I have to go to work It smells like stale sweat and cigarettes out there and I can hear freedom stagger their heart beats like If we punch it in the nose will it swim away? I hope so Because I have coffee brewing and Laundry to do and There’s no time to stop them so I’ll have to fit it in to this busy “good consumers” schedule I have to fight with my doctor over the cost of my healthcare but It’s important I pay attention because it’s ramping up but I have to go to the bank because someone tried to steal my money again, but I didn’t have any I’ll keep the attitude positive so I don’t spook the others We’re all a little terrified at varying levels of admitting it Around the water cooler like We aren’t one bad moment away from tanks in the street They believe more in one man than I’ve ever believed in one person but It isn’t the one you’d expect it to be We turn on people we once considered heroes when we learn they’ve exploited their power but They watch this orange tower rise with fascination They gleefully chant love so it grows into walls and Executions I’d rather be reporting, honestly Drinking this shit like the kool aid so I can be Siren song to the people I love but They haven’t listened since they took their masks off I can’t blame them The news isn’t great like, The doctors out of surgery and The country’s in critical condition, or We’re probably just faking it Raising the temperature so we don’t have to go to school in the morning So the filters stop working and The tank gets dirty enough they don’t need to wear covers on their faces to do the shooting anymore I think I said the quiet part out loud We haven’t been the same since 2012 or 2020, or Maybe it’s further back than that Right wing agendas in the air They’ve got drones, I mean Guns, I mean Holy shit they’ve got a gun and it’s pointed at All of us, but My lunch is packed and I have to go to work Photo of text of a poem I wrote
