monochrome, another morning grey on grey, a waiting bus to take me to another day, out of time still trying to find the beat, stepping out just one more pilgrim on the street . . . . . .

This painting is inspired by the Swedish tradition of hanging star lanterns in the windows of every home, so even the days are cold and dark, the cities are lit with cozy magical stars 🌟⭐✨

One of the many things I don't understand in life is how can anything be random. How are random numbers generated without causing them to come into being, in which case how are they random . . . #philosophy #maths

One critic, writing in 1911 (the date of this work) commented, George Clausen 'gives us out of very simple elements the most perfect nocturnes, these mark a new and definite advance in his power in taking complete hold of a subject and making it his own.'

With the approach of autumn, this sort of view is "on the cards" if one is up early enough! This is "Essex Landscape, Early Morning" by Walter Steggles from 1938. Chappel Viaduct can be seen in the distance. This one is available as a card or print here: www.eastlondongroup.co.uk #WalterSteggles

Come to the stream, all who are thirsty, all who are weary and need something to drink. There is fresh and flowing water here, enough for everyone. Life giving water: hope for everyone. Come whenever you can. You will always be welcome. Stay a few moments, or, camp by the sound of the water.

"The Big Man" made his entrance into the story, the photograph and the myth this week in 1975, during the cover shoot for "Born to Run." "I brought Clarence to the session because I wanted to be photographed with him," Bruce said...

In 1919, when Tempe Manning was experimenting with colour palettes in figure and model studies, she also turned her attention to the developing modern city skyline as a subject for her art. She painted several views of Kingsclere in Sydney.

I see them walking in the cool of the evening, long shadowy figures moving through the last light, like a mist over the meadow they walk, silently they walk, they do not speak but you hear their thoughts as they pass: we are with you, the Ancestors say, and we ever shall be.

'The Sheepfold, Moonlight.' (c1859) In this scene, a waning moon throws a light across fields between the villages of Barbizon and Chailly. Jean-François Millet later wrote: 'One ought to be able to make people hear the songs of the shepherd, the sounds of the night, the bliss.'

My thanks to you all for your support here over the past six months: yesterday we reached the point of having 1000 followers, which is lovely. By way of a "thank you", here's a great favourite of mine: "Stratford" by Walter Steggles from the joint show at Lefevre with his brother Harold in 1938.

How beautiful our Mother, the Earth. She stands beside the sun, wrapped in shawls of cloud, her blue skirt and green apron caught on the breeze, her head wreathed in the Northern Lights, her voice in the clear stream, her eyes in the sparkling seas. How beautiful, our Mother, the Earth.

This is "Mile End Road" by Elwin Hawthorne from 1930. We were extremely lucky to be able to borrow it for our recent exhibition @BowArts because, prior to that, it had not been seen in public since 1930! #ElwinHawthorne #MileEndRoad #EastLondonGroup #fridaymorning

We were not placed here on Earth to make more money. Our purpose is not to amass as much wealth as we can. We are here for a higher purpose, for a sacred purpose. Our message is clear: we do not need more for the few, but enough for the many.

here is a simple cost- free way to double (hopefully) your donation to #charity. Go to charity/thrift shop of your choice, purchase item which seems reasonably priced and likely to sell easily. Then donate to another charity shop - ideally one which you think might be short of stock . . .

"A Ritual to Read to Each Other" is a poem I've come back to in many dark times, and in today's divisive snare of egos and blame-scheming, I'm most drawn to the last stanza, that awake people be awake. Thank you #WilliamStafford for your insight over half a century ago in another dark time.

Be strong, all my relations, be strong in your kinship. Stand with your family. Stand with your ancestors. Let the mighty hand of Spirit lift you and hold you close. You are not weak or alone: you are one of the workers of heaven, chosen by name, blessed by all that is holy.

Empires of the ego rise and fall, but the kinship of humanity remains constant. We are the river that runs beneath the earth. We are the fire carried from the beginning. We are the prayer that never ends.

What does it mean to have a spiritual life: it means you believe in something greater than yourself with whom you can relate. Start there. It is the door to a place of wonders.

The elders say frustration is an engine: it drives you somewhere. What makes us frustrated gets us moving. We protest, we organize, we volunteer, we donate, we vote. What not to do: stay in the frustration without trying to change it. What to do: show up and turn frustration to positive change.

We are living in a time when laughter is rare. That is all the more reason to look for it. The things that make you smile, the things that lift your spirit: seek them and share them as widely as you can. Smiles will heal your troubled heart, and laughter will breathe hope back into your soul.

There are other hands than our own at work in the world. They are the unseen hands of Spirit: working to untangle the messes we make, striving to bring us back together, touching those of us who need healing. As you work, please know that you do not work alone.
