Losing books is heartbreaking, but it’s like one thing in particular that’s nearly impossible to remediate.

Highly recommended doing the hertsmi/ermi test to have an idea of the likelihood that mold growth in your house is toxic vs nontoxic! (Though as I got out of the moldy environment, I started having allergic reactions to all mold I think)

Imperial boomerang. Reminiscent of the stories of Baghdad outside the Green Zone. Roving paramilitaries.

“Good” cops quit when they realize their job requires them to cover for the dirty ones. Must be hard having coworkers riding around with loaded guns, ready to execute the PoC they already assume are guilty.

Please - the polling for Bernie, for example, showed support across party lines. Look at Mamdani’s support in like… Staten Island. It’s the donors that would be upset.

The leadership won’t even endorse the hyper popular progressives like Mamdani. Democrats don’t come up with progressive policies because they’re opposed to progressive policies, they crush all dissent to maintain an agenda palatable to the donors, but not popular enough to consistently win.

So you run a centrist democrat for president, they continue pro-corporate, anti-population policies (healthcare gets worse, food stamps are taken way, millions are slaughtered overseas), and a weary and jaded electorate vote for another Trump who promises to right the ship. The cycle continues anew!

a general good rule of thumb for being a decent human is if you see someone doing something unusual and innocuous in public, assume they either have a perfectly good reason you're not privy to, or aren't having a great time and deserve compassion

These workers at McDonalds will never know it, probably taking holiday pay and trying to keep a precarious job, but I really needed this meal. Just a place to stop and catch my breath and eat and feel.

I asked if he’d visit me if I ended up in the hospital. His first instinct was “yes,” but then the wheels started turning again “but I’m 78 and you’re not gonna…” and in that moment I knew he’d let me die alone in some hospital in the desert.

America compounds selfishness and greed. It encourages an ideology of eugenics. And then reinforces the kind of delusions that let you forget those people are your own family. And eventually, you.

It’s hard to emphasize how isolating chronic illness is. Old friends give up on you when they can’t fix you. You lose any common ground with strangers that you do meet. You share nothing in common, they think you’re delusional. If it’s not cancer, they don’t care.

Driving home, eating McDonalds. Worried I’m gonna get sick again and be bedbound for another few months or forever. I fought for every fucking inch of this recovery, and in the end it’s my own father who tries to burn it to the ground.
