From a British point of view it's always going to be interesting if only because of the "Hitler, he's only got one ball" song as mentioned in the article.
Other than that its relevance is extremely minimal.

Looking at it from a non-London perspective it's always been a giveaway rather than an effective means of reducing car usage. The vast majority outside of big cities don't live within cycling distance of work and don't have rail services good enough to get them close enough to cycle the rest either

If we're talking about the Richard Montgomery then you should probably consider the SS Mont-Blanc which blew up carrying several thousand of tons of munitions in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
