Smart people notice everything that’s there
Even smarter people also notice what should be there - but isn’t
Unfortunately, complete loonies see stuff that isn’t there too
Critical thinking is how we tell the difference
Well, among other drivel that’s come out of his cake hole recently is a confession that he doesn’t like good looking ppl (which everyone immediately understood as referring specifically to men). Permanently frozen in the worst phase of adolescence, his insecurity could power a good size city.

Agree. And the “criticality” of a mineral is not intrinsic. “Rare Earths” are not actually rare. Critical minerals were made critical by deliberate political choice, long ago and, strategically, by China. We saw the pay off last week e.g. causing Trump to back down.

/s, obviously. It’s hard to get black humour right when everything is black

South Koreans to Dems:: “Haha you make a joke: You think think Trump and his crony capitalist IT bro oligarchs are EVER going to let you regain power ?”

South Korea was a dictatorship and became a democracy. They know what that looks like in reverse.

Oh that was just a typo, specifically a misplaced space. They were holding their fire to let Trump have his circus, lose interest and look away. Then they just ceased holding their fire. Not sure what’s hard about this.

Mussolini rebuilding Rome as the Romans liked it

Exceptional rather than expectational but the latter also applies. I, for example, would like not to expect to catch COVID in a hospital.

P.S. They are just practiced purporters, who succeed because of a lack of practiced reporters

Yes.

Politician

You’re welcome

Tracking for a base leg of the circuit for runway 26 by the look of it

So it was at ~ 2000’ above msl. The highest building in Melbourne is (I think) Australia 108 in South Bank at ~ 1000’ amsl. So even if it tracked over that it would have been (just) legal. But it would certainly look startlingly low and I think that approach path into Essendon would be unusual.

Min altitude over the highest obstacle in a built up area is 1000’ with that object within a 600m radius. You can look on FlightRadar24 to see what it was and what altitude. When I fly the “River Run” in Perth I have to turn tight in front of the city to meet this requirement

Albo will be looking at the results of a recent ABC poll that showed that, while Aussies have contempt for Trump, they still think the US alliance is necessary. Too few understand that he’s just the circus clown and it’s much deeper than him. The old US is gone. The new one is more enemy than ally.
October 19, 2025 at 11:31 AM
FFS wake up ! Trump isn’t a temporary aberration. The rule of law, both nationally and internationally has been rejected and both congress and SCOTUS have endorsed it. The old US is gone. It’s closer to the corrupt Russian oligarchy than a democracy now.

Eets Smakelijk !

There’s a more fundamental issue here and it’s literally an existential one for humanity. The narcissism built into the SM is bad enough. Millions of us now exist in utterly different realities. AI tells us what we want to hear even more convincingly. Tribalism, the deadly, ancient curse on steroids

Perhaps someone should remind Trump what happened to the last king of England who aspired to absolute monarchy ?
October 14, 2025 at 1:05 PM
Ah well, a constitutional monarch is a very different thing to the absolute monarch Trump wants to emulate. I fear “No Kings (unless largely ceremonial, constitutionally constrained and subject to the same laws as the citizenry) !!” Won’t fit so easily on a banner.
October 14, 2025 at 1:02 PM
Agree. It’s also a lie. Fairly sure all the “brokering” was done by others.
Two things changed: He got pissed off by the Qatar raid and world opinion moved substantially against Israel. Netanyahu read the room and decided now is the time to manipulate Trump with a public show - for now.

Conditioning to the 5 minute sensational headline and analysis as shallow as a toddlers wading pool. First by the Murdoch trash and now by the attention-by-outrage machine that is social media. We live in a world of no yesterdays and are creating a world of no tomorrows.
October 14, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Ummm… I think you answered your own question 😆

More seriously, because of the media and social media polarisation, large parts of the US population exist in quite different realities now. It is an old method of state information warfare, on steroids. More powerful than any military.

She tripped the light Fan Dango

“We skipped the light fandango
turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
but the crowd called out for more”
October 13, 2025 at 1:55 AM
Yes. I am still not sure whether the hospitalisation rate is “admitted due to”, “detected while there” or some combination of the two - do you know ? Anecdotally I have heard of several ppl who caught it in there and others who caught it in aged care, and were admitted as precaution.

My understanding is that rare earth critical minerals are not actually rare. The low concentrations require extractions of large rock volumes with consequent large volumes of waste materials. China controls the market by being prepared to do this at scale. We are not going to run out of them per se
