It's because of this that I'm never going to be telling people to replace all their financial transactions with cryptocurrency. It's not a replacement for government-sponsored fiat currency. It is its own ecosystem for its own purposes, with its own uniques issues and benefits.

The absence of government oversight and regulation of cryptocurrency is kind of the point, though. It's a hazard of the field, and you have to be careful about who you trust when using it, but this is better than the government or a corporation telling you that you can't use your money for stuff.
