I think Bill Unruh sums it up well. (Although I admit that I haven't tried to become knowledgeable enough on the subject to have a relevant point of view of my own).

[Genuine question] Is this view truly in the minority? Based on my (admittedly biased) experience, it seems more likely that a silent majority of physicists share this perspective. By 'silent majority,' I mean those who either don't care about or don't work on the Black Hole information paradox.
