Regeneron buying 23&Me for $256M. Regeneron is one of a few companies that can extend the value of this data.
Will they continue to operate 23&Me or just ingest the data and shutter them?
And has anyone verified that the “deleted” user data was actually deleted?

If you have an answer already, maybe it just takes that long to make the data fit?

23&Me files for bankruptcy.
If you are a customer, it would be wise to delete your data. Here are the steps.
Log in, Go to “settings” section of your profile.
Scroll to a section labeled “23andMe data” at the bottom of the page.
Click “view” next to “23andMe data.”

This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

It’s true. For all the good vibes here, engagement kinda sucks.
Hey genomics peeps, if you want to make bluesky happen you have to engage! Reply and repost! Likes don’t do anything. Right now, this app feels more like an announcement board!

Following the Roche SBX announcement, a question: In 2012, Roche tried to acquire Illumina for $6.8B but failed, so they built their own sequencer over 10 years for likely less. Smart move or should they have bought Illumina for an extra $1B in 2012? Thoughts?

For anyone weighing in on the NIH decision to cap indirect costs at 15%, I strongly recommend watching the video to gain at least a basic understanding of indirect costs before forming an opinion and commenting.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

If this policy stays in place, the consequences the consequences for life science research across the United States could be far reaching.

Quanterix's acquisition of Akoya is interesting and highlights signs of contraction (Nanostring, Fluent) in the spatial biology and single-cell markets. With many companies struggling for market share and profitability, more consolidations may follow.

The origins of GFP with a somewhat tragic origin story (if you are a young scientist).
Do you know who Douglas Prasher is? Many don't, even though he is the person who cloned the original #GFP gene in the late 1980s. In my short history of plant light #microscopy I also cover a bit of his story - & why he is relatively unknown today, despite the importance of his work. See this 🧵👇

I sad it before and I say it again. De-index MDPI and Frontiers (maybe minus anything that is not garbage) and it will get better.
An interesting read, I knew about MDPI but wasn't aware of how bad Frontiers are too.
The strain on scientific publishing: we set out to characterise the remarkable growth of the scientific literature in the last few years, in spite of declining growth in total scientists. What is going on?
