you can read the US constitution to allow a president to serve 3 terms but if you so at least admit that you are no longer doing constitutionalism

@timothysnyder.bsky.social that being said, thank you for what you have done for educating the world and fundraising for Ukraine, which is arguably more than what a lot of the aforementioned politicians have done.

@timothysnyder.bsky.social While writing those books doesn't obligate you to stay and fight, they—particularly "On Tyranny"—now feel disingenuous. It will be hard not to roll my eyes at any of your future calls for US citizens to engage in activism.

@timothysnyder.bsky.social Moreover, leaving the US is contradictory to the themes in "On Tyranny and "On Freedom." Your departure resembles the actions of many politicians who repeatedly express concern about this admin but do little more, leaving the fight to those without the privilege to flee.

Your decision to leave the US is disappointing. You cited personal reasons, but it's hard to believe it's unrelated to the current state of affairs, especially given what your wife's provided as reasons. Claiming it is only personal echoes the language manipulation seen in the Trump administration.

Agreed. It seems like an opportunity to downplay or deny the Bucha massacre, given the absence of murdered civilians on the streets and the ongoing rebuilding, while ignoring that this is because it’s been three years.

Strong-arming US politicians worried about their futures or the soft political elites of other Western countries is one thing. Trying it with Ukrainians who've individually and collectively lived through both the war and Ukraine in the 1990s is, I suspect, something else.
