@skriptble.me Worse is Better was a great episode. I am not a car guy, but members of my family are and we've talked about the Volt a number of times. It was uniquely positioned to be one of the most eco-friendly vehicles available.

To the #Rustaceans out there, how much of an extra burden is it to write and maintain a library that exposes its public API not just via Rust but also unmangled C?

I feel like I should be able to write a monologue here, but all I'm able to express at this point is "I want off this train."

@element.io Is OIDC support available for EMS hosted home servers? I'd like to give Element X a spin, but fedora.im appears to not have that capability.

Is enabling "Reduce Transparency" the only way to make iOS 26 visually usable? I've heard some changes to liquid glass are coming in future updates; it's almost as if no one but the design team who made it took it for a spin.

If this option would also affect the URL bar in Safari, that'd be great!

@bcantrill.bsky.social IIRC during the Turin breakdown episode the use and future of Intel's Tofino line and P4 at Oxide was discussed. With Intel's announced plan to spin out the NEX team, do you see an opportunity to reconnect with the group to collaborate on future Oxide networking stacks?

What's wrong with us in the tech industry that we need to be reminded about simple concepts?

Take domain-driven design for example. Imagine applying this to other industries.

I'm gonna open a diner using the domain of diners. Yeah no duh! What would you use instead, a car cash?

@matthewsanabria.dev Just finished listening to the SIMD Fallthrough episode, lots of interesting info in there! Particularly the Protobuf and gRPC discussion at the end, a future episode focusing on those topics would be awesome!

Did a quick scan of the draft release notes for @golang.org 1.25, there's a lot to be excited about in a few months! Changes that caught my eye:

* go doc -http
* cgroups respecting GOMAXPROCS
* new GC preview
* DWARFv5
* encoding/json/v2 preview

@skriptble.me Something I've thought would make for an interesting discussion on @fallthrough.fm would be the folks over at @buf.build to talk about #Buf, #Protobuf, #protoc, #gRPC, and #ConnectRPC. It's a really interesting set of projects trying to simplify and improve a complex ecosystem.

We created a safer AV1 decoder, rav1d, by forking the dav1d decoder and rewriting the C code in Rust. It works great except our Rust is 5% slower than the C. We're not sure why so we're offering a $20k bounty to figure it out and make the Rust code faster. www.memorysafety.org/blog/rav1d-p...

I think I've found a new favorite mini tool: "unbuffer" from the "expect" package. Perfect for when you want to log output to a file while seeing live output normally.

$ unbuffer [command] | tee run.log

Pair it with "less -R" for reviewing the log for extra fun!

@cfks.bsky.social Any chance customers can expect the new #HDR feature merged into #GNOME 48 to be backported to #RHEL 9? And 10, if it's not going to be rebased in 10.1.
