The greatest story ever told. Happy 4th of July.

Akram Al-Akhali, kidnapped and disappeared by Houthis for close to 10 months, has been released. Thanks to unrelenting efforts and Dutch diplomacy, he has safely arrived in Oman. UN and U.S. Embassy #Yemen colleagues are still in Houthi dungeons and their health is deteriorating.

Today is the International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members. My friends and colleagues who worked for the U.S. State Department, the UN, and civil society organizations are still disappeared in Houthi prisons. Some have died, others are in a really bad shape. #SOS #Yemen

Talking to Sally on ABC Radio National Breakfast, I explained impact of airstrikes on Houthi ops, Iran's increased support, Houthi weaponizing of grievances, their local and regional ambitions, and need for holistic approach in #Yemen www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...

Multiple waves of U.S. airstrikes targeting Houthis across several governorates in #Yemen. These are different in terms of scale, intensity and reach than ones last year.

Just spoke to BBC News on the airstrikes targeted Houthis in #Yemen and want to reiterate that Houthis have own goals that go beyond Yemen's borders and we will likely see further escalation as they grandstand and dig heels into reckless adventurism.

"WFP employee Ahmed Ba‘Alawi, detained by Houthis, has died.." No, NO. He was kidnapped, disappeared, likely tortured, and was MURDERED. And so will tens of other colleagues while you use this ridiculously soft language that only further emboldens Houthi impunity and barbarism. #Yemen

Airstrikes on the Houthi Urdi defense complex in Sana'a today as we wrap up year on a high note of missiles and bombs and bracing for further escalation. #Yemen

People in #Yemen are bracing for the worst. As always, it will be civilians that will bear the brunt of the conflict.

Flights at Sana'a airport have resumed after Thursday's attacks. But just as I told BBC News, going after civilian infrastructure is collective punishment, will exacerbate humanitarian crisis, galvanize Houthis and bolster their local recruitment drive. #Yemen

The series of airstrikes in Sana'a and Hudaydah hit major electricity stations - knocking main grid offline - and ports. Casualties reported. Hitting infrastructure will never be popular. In fact, it's counterproductive, as it will bolster Houthi narrative and recruitment drive. #Yemen

Glued to TV watching prisoners being freed from the notorious Syrian regime death pits. Those who have survived years of torture and miraculously still alive. And I can't help but think of the thousands in hellish Houthi prisons and if they will ever experience joy of a similar day. #Yemen
