Good one. Strong metaphor for Depression. Dog gives an excellent performance.

What Lies Beneath (2000). A ghost story with a touch of Hitchcockian mystery, starring Michelle Pfieffer and Harrison Ford. It’s a brilliant film that deserves more recognition.

You Should Have Left from the same writer and director and also starring Kevin Bacon is a pretty good one. Came out in 2020. Slow burn haunted house movie whose characters live in a moral gray area. The whole time you question what’s really happening. Amanda Seyfried gives a great performance.

This one is criminally overlooked.

Poltergeist was 1982… I know probably too close to 1980, and you’ve likely already seen it.

Lady in White came out in 1988 (so not 1980). It uses some ghost haunting based tropes and ties it to a mystery/coming of age story. Highly recommend it.

Scratch that, that’s not so traditional. But it is a very good ghost story within the last few years.

Last Night in SoHo.

Breaks my heart every time.

Makes me think of Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive.
