I like to do this too, especially because its always heart-breaking when a PC just assumes they trip over their cloak and faceplant because they rolled a 13 not a 15 (and because John Harper told me that the PCs are supposed to be competent)

I think if you come from D&D like most people do, you either: A) Love that you do 95% of the work (including designing the game and better 'house rules' to make it work) and don't want to give up that prestige, or B) Love being able to focus on the key 20% to make the sessions good!

I think the worst part is all the smirking centrists in this thread with their 'I told you so's'.

As my geologist friend said to me on the topic, “fossil fuels are incredibly efficient but limited and harder and harder to retrieve, we should be saving them for when we absolutely need them, not filling our cars and powering the grid!”

Stealing this. There’s a certain amount of “look at the fiction, not your character sheet“ that you need to make roleplaying sing.

I'm never envious of the lives of actors APART FROM when I see them on the carpet in immaculate, innovative drip. Oscar Issac springs to mind.

More and more convinced they want us too knackered all of the time. That productivity/subservience knife edge.

Night of the Meat Men, one-shot adventure: Players scramble to find the Meat Men on the last sunny weekend of the year and Morrisons has run out of the good BBQ stuff

One issue where I've had this become a problem is last blows via spells. Its harder to imagine a non-lethal fireball or frost blast, but the limiting factor is imagination. A skilled mage could probably encase an opponent in ice, or surround them with flame.

Having finished 'Failed State' this week I'll take up the free trial to get reflections on 2025! I'm 35 but reading the book it was striking just how much better our country ran just a couple decades ago, pre-crash. A lot of millennial anger goes towards Clegg but he was just the face/scapegoat

I'm not surprised that when I asked my players what they wanted to see in our new Pirate Borg campaign, they unanimously voted for 'taking down the East India Trading Company'

Yep a sweet spot for sure. Even better if they have GM experience

So what did you do? Do you still play with any of them? I have a group who are very much mixed, but ultimately none as 'Quantum' as me

Agreed, in the Blades discord you always get people coming in and saying "my group don't get this game, what gives?". I'm running a game right now that maximises player creativity, but minimises GM creativity, they love it and I hate it.

I heard someone say that GMs work in Creativity, and players work in Immersion, and if you're used to being immersed in a world by a story-teller, it can be jarring for them to say "And now you!". But when everyone is being creative together it can be great. Annoyingly some just like being immersed!
