MD at Aurora Energy Research in North America. Interested in energy, climate, effective giving, and Blackburn Rovers FC. Views my own etc.
A lot of overlap with Burkeman's focus on mortality, Buddhist notions of attachment, & Hartmut Rosa's idea of "resonance". His chapter on work in "Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life" is short and accessible.

Really enjoyed this one. You may also be interested in the work of Jungian analyst James Hollis, who sees burnout resulting from the absence of "soul" in contemporary culture. In this framing, productivity and workaholism are attempts to find meaning & avoid facing the inherent suffering of life.

Yes, that's my view and how I choose to give. I really wish more people thought about the marginal impact of giving. Still, I don't think it's helpful to frame as the only "right answer". There will always be people motivated to give to causes that wouldn't make the cut for EA recommend charities.

Thanks for sharing! Tyler is fantastic, I had a lot of fun talking with him on a genuinely important and underappreciated topic. Deliverability is a huge deal...
