I find this a weak critique of effective giving in @nytimes.com. Ignores that orgs like @givingwhatwecan.bsky.social encourage giving *more*, not just "optimizing" giving. Expanding our circle of moral concern doesn't necessarily imply neglecting local communities.

What if Charity Shouldn’t Be Optimized?
The recent trend in philanthropy has been to look for the most bang for your buck. Maybe you don’t have to.

Fascinating new analysis from Apollo Research shows the ability of #ChatGPT and other #AI models both to deceive developers AND then lie about the deception to cover their tracks. Really shows the importance of alignment work in #AIsafety

I've never been one for social media and still getting to grips with this place, but I enjoy that my news feed is a fairly glorious mix of passionate energy/climate wonkery, eclectic effective altruism, and alternatively depressive/buoyant Blackburn Rovers F.C. content

It was really fun speaking with @tnorris.bsky.social about interconnection queues in the US. Why is it that it takes *so* much longer to get new energy capacity online in some parts of the country? What can be done about it? Tyler is truly the #1 expert so well worth a listen! #energysky
These stats blew my mind - and I enjoyed discussing them on the latest episode of Aurora Energy Research's "Energy Unplugged" podcast, hot off the press this AM w/ @oliverkerr.bsky.social: 🔌💡 auroraer.com/podcast/
