#DoctorWho and old TV. Tired and emotional. Sentimental and violent. Doctor Who blog here: https://thehiddenplanet.substack.com/
Just caught up on this week’s QI XL and I appreciated the gags sneaked into this rare shot of the set from the reverse angle.

I’ve just read HG Wells’ 1937 novella Star Begotten. I wonder if Nigel Kneale ever read it. It’s very Quatermass and the Pit (albeit briefly)…

I felt I deserved a little treat so I bought myself a box of chocolate truffles on the way home from work and now I've scoffed the lot. I don't regret a thing.

I’ve just spent the last couple of hours reading the Doctor Who Legends special about Terry Nation. It’s excellent. Great work from @paulkirkley.bsky.social, @eddierobson.bsky.social, @oliver-wake.bsky.social, and @cooraysmith.bsky.social amongst others.

No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

"We don't need the software profit," was how dk'tronics described their games to CRASH in 1985. A weirdly dismissive attitude considering some of their games were very good indeed.

Looking at the Remembrance of the Daleks production file today I fascinated to see the BBC tried to clear music by The Smiths and Aztec Camera for the story. Obviously this music isn’t of the right period for the jukebox music so I can only assume it was to be played on Ace’s ghetto blaster.

BBC4 have switched their Screen 2 repeats to double bills. It's too much to be honest. One a week is perfect. I wonder why the change. Perhaps it's not performing well and they're keen to get through the ones they've cleared and put something else on in that slot.

I love this illustration from the unintentionally-hilarious ‘Doctor Who Technical Manual’ (1983) which has a scale suggesting the sonic screwdriver is over 2 metres long!

Reading through the production documents on the Remembrance of the Daleks blu-ray. I never knew Stratford Johns had been offered the Ratcliffe role. He would have been brilliant. Not that George Sewell wasn't good in it, I should add.

What happened to the BBC Armoury? I assume it didn't survive Producer Choice. Anyone know anything about it?

Is the Dalek capsule in Power of the Daleks bigger on the inside, or is the exterior supposed to be larger than it appears in the few images we have of it? If it's bigger inside, you'd think the human characters would at least remark on it.

Oh, this is new. Just seen a BBC continuity announcement that thanked the viewer for funding them.

Just caught up on Radio 4’s recent Screenshot episode about The Naked Civil Servant. Dreadful. Aside from Stephen Bourne’s contribution it displayed an absurd ignorance of the context of the programme and of 20th century television forms. Film programmes should probably stick to films.

Does anyone have any idea why Patreon would suddenly say my monthly payments are declined? The card is still valid & working elsewhere & my bank hasn't flagged to me any payment issues. Patreon suggests adding a new card – which I don’t have. If I can’t find out what’s wrong how can I resolve it?
