This was an actual proposal when the US was being built. The counter argument was a king (because they were SO imaginative back then). They settled on President with the belief that giving him 30-day powers would allow him to act while congress sorted out the details. Not loving it…

Way I heard it was the designer wanted the disk and nacelles down. Roddenberry turned it over and said “THIS!”. And that’s what we have.

It is the most beautiful, and iconic, ship design. Made all the more enjoyable by the fact that it’s upside down from what the creator actually wanted 🤣
