Oldest Olympians is saddened to learn that Pepi Erben, born January 18, 1928, who represented Germany in two alpine skiing events at the 1952 Oslo Games, died October 17 at the age of 97.

Our Olympian of the day is Italian gymnast Arrigo Carnoli, born January 31, 1932. Carnoli represented his country in the tournament at the 1952 Helsinki Games, where he was 10th in the team all-around and had a best individual finish of joint-38th in the floor exercise.

Our Olympian of the day is Austrian cyclist Franz Wimmer, born August 25, 1932. Wimmer represented his country in six events across two editions of the Games, 1952 and 1956, with a best finish of 30th in the individual road race in 1956.

Our Olympian of the day is Chilean swimmer Hernán Avilés, born November 4, 1929. Avilés represented his country in the 100 metres freestyle event at the 1952 Helsinki Games, where he placed 51st. He was also a non-starter in the 400 metres freestyle.

Happy 92nd birthday to Knut Johannesen, the oldest living Olympic speed skating medalist and Norwegian Olympic medalist! Johannesen represented his country in nine events across three editions of the Games, 1956-1964, winning five medals.

Happy 96th birthday to Will Henderson, the oldest survivor of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics! Henderson represented the United States Virgin Islands in the free pistol, 50 metres shooting event, where he placed 44th. By career, he was a dentist.

Our Olympian of the day is Finnish cross-country skier Pentti Pelkonen, born March 20, 1930. Pelkonen represented his country in the 50 kilometers event at the 1960 Squaw Valley Games, where he placed sixth.

Happy 92nd birthday to Hans Sailer, the oldest surviving Olympian to have participated in the 1988 Seoul Games! Sailer represented his country in in the rapid-fire pistol, 25 metres sport shooting event at the 1980 and 1988 Summer Olympics.

Happy 94th birthday to Eric Pearce, the oldest living Olympic field hockey medalist! Pearce represented Australia in four consecutive Olympic tournaments, 1956-1968, winning bronze in 1964 and silver in 1968.

Our Olympian of the day is Aram Boghossian, born November 19, 1929. Boghossian represented his country in the 100 and 4x200 metres freestyle swimming events at the 1948 and 1952 Summer Games. He won silver in the relay at the 1951 Pan American Games.

Happy 97th birthday to Janez Pavčič, the oldest living Olympian to have represented Yugoslavia! Pavčič took part in three events at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Games, placing 13th in the 4x10 km relay and 45th in the 15 kilometers, and being disqualified in the 30 km.
