Happy 97th birthday to Vanja Blomberg, the oldest living Swedish Olympic champion and Olympic gymnastics medalist! Blomberg won her prize as a member of the Swedish gymnastics portable apparatus team at the 1952 Helsinki Games, where she was also fourth in the team all-around.

Happy belated birthday to André Moccand, the oldest living Swiss Olympic medalist, who turned 95 yesterday! Moccand represented his country in the coxed fours rowing event at the 1948 London Games, where he won a silver medal.

Oldest Olympians is saddened to learn that Giuseppe Colantuono, born November 26, 1928, who represented Italy in the lightweight weightlifting competition at the 1948 London Games, died February 7, 2025 at the age of 96.

Happy 95th birthday to Kim Jong-Sun, the oldest living Olympic speed skater! Kim represented his country in three events at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Games, with a best finish of 30th in the 10,000 metres. From 1961 through 1973 he served with the Korean Ice Skating Federation.

Our Olympian of the day is Danish canoeist Vagn Schmidt, born January 15, 1935. Schmidt represented his country in the K-2 1000 at the 1960 Rome Games, where he placed fifth. He was the European silver medalist in that event in 1957, and World bronze medalist in the K-1 10,000 in 1958.

Our Olympian of the day is Danish diver Bende Velin, born September 5, 1934. Velin represented her country in the platform event at the 1960 Rome Games, where she placed 16th. She was 9th in that event at the 1958 European Championships.

Our Olympian of the day is French basketballer Roger Veyron, born June 15, 1933. Veyron represented his country in the tournament at the 1956 Melbourne Games, where France lost the bronze medal match against Uruguay. He also competed at EuroBasket 1957.
