I didn't cook a recipe from Mastering the Art od French Cooking this weekend, but I did go out with the family to have a delicious meal. One which is quintessential of a Maryland summer. Fresh steamed blue crabs! Spent a couple of hours working on 2.5 dozen ❤️

I finally got cream puffs to turn out! Only took 4 tries and a YouTube video of Julia Child making them back in the day on her show to get it. I will admit my sizes are off, but I only found my piping bags after I made the puffs.

Now, to share them at work tomorrow so I don't eat them all.

My plans to make cream puffs today only got halfway done. I DID make the crème pâtissière, but the puffs themselves will happen sometime in the next few days. The pastry cream is absolutely delicious, though! Hopefully, I will do better with the puffs on my second go in the next few days!

I'm finally getting back to normal on my challenge, and I attempted to make cheese puffs today. They taste good, but they are severely lacking in appearance.

It was my first time working with pâte à choux... I definitely need more practice

Today's rainy Sunday recipe was a Soufflé with Ham added from Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I absolutely loved this soufflé so much more than the cheese soufflé made previously! Less rise that I would like, but it didn't affect taste!

This lovely holiday weekend gave me the perfect opportunity to jump back in to cooking my way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child after a few weeks off.

Today's marks the start of alternating between eggs and soufflés on my cooking journey. So, since my soufflé mold is on order, my first egg dish was a poached egg.

I've never made one before, but I think it turned out well, tasty too!

Yesterday was Easter and running around doing prep and then traveling for dinner got in the way of posting. But for lunch, I made Gratin of Chicken with Mushrooms! It turned out so much better than last week's recipe.

Next, will either be eggs or soufflés.

This weekend's recipe is in the oven, and I'm going to need a glass of wine to help get the courage to taste it when it comes out.

It's a Gratin of Creamed Salmon using canned salmon.

This weekend's recipe was a Gratin of Leeks with Ham. The dish was good, and kind of reminded me of a ham and onion omelet. It was another delicious recipe but I wouldn't say it stands out above the rest.

Well, I'm a few days late posting this week's recipe, but I did make it on Sunday morning!

This weekend I made Gratin of Potatoes, Onions, and Sausages. I was a bit nervous because it called for a béchamel sauce, but it turned out delicious! It worked great for brunch!

Today's recipe was a Gratin of Shredded Potatoes with Ham and Eggs and Onions. It turned out amazing!

It was dinner tonight, but it would also make an amazing breakfast served with a side of fresh fruit.

Today's recipe was a spinach quiche. I gotta say, while I do like spinach, I'm not a huge fan of it in a quiche. It is a good quiche, but I won't be in a hurry to make it again.

But, at least I made it and tried it, so now I know!

This weekend, I made another quiche recipe from the amazing Julia Child. I made the mushroom quiche in her book, and it's one of my favorites so far!

This weekend I made another quiche, an onion quiche. This quiche is rich, creamy, and has an amazing onion flavor pared with the Gruyère cheese in it. Hands down my favorite quiche so far!

Today's recipe is a Swiss Cheese quiche made using Gruyère cheese. It is very rich, creamy, and wonderfully savory.

While delicious, it definitely needs to be served with something light like fruit to cut the richness.

Today I moved to a new section of Mastering the Art of French Cooking and had my first experience making a quiche.

I made Quiche Lorraine at my parent's home so I would have additional tasters. Suffice to say, the quiche was a big hit!

Today's soup is my last soup until spring (I will cook from a different section of Mastering the Art of French Cooking next weekend) when I make the two fish soups.

Today's soup is main course cabbage soup. I did take the pork out of the soup because it became rubbery, but the soup is delicious!

Today's soup is Garlic Soup and it's a very light soup. It calls for it to be served with a toasted round of bread and parmesan cheese. I will admit it is a tasty and aromatic soup, but I probably won't ever make it again.

At least I'm not out a bunch of money on expensive ingredients!

Today's soup was Provençal Vegetable Soup with Garlic, Basil and Herbs. My biggest challenge with this soup was finding Saffron since it is definitely not a spice I keep stocked!

The soup was very aromatic and I could taste all the individual herbs and spices. It was delicious!

The soup of the weekend was Frech Onion Soup. It is absolutely perfect weather for soup tonight when it was snowing earlier today and it will just get colder.

10/10 delicious and puts the love in labor of love

I'm 3/4 of the way through making this cream of mushroom soup and I'm just hoping it tastes delicious because it is way more work than I anticipated
January 12, 2025 at 11:26 PM
Later today I'm making cream of mushroom soup and when I was double checking everything I realized I forgot to get whipping cream yesterday.

So decided to walk to my local co-op, only they only had heaby whipping cream and no whipping cream.

This soup will be thick like my thighs I guess 🤷‍♀️

Me: feeling confident with my basic soup skills

Mastering the Art of French Cooking: let's graduate to 10 ingredients and complicated instructions

I'm not sure if I bit off more than I can chew, but thankfully tomorrow's recipe is somewhat simple

As I prepare to make the first soup in Mastering the Art of French Cooking later, it has hit me that while I got all the ingredients, I don't have the right size pot or a food mill.
