I watched Fanny & Alexander the theatrical version and holy crap what an incredible movie.

I've met plenty of women who love Daria but dont know what else to recommend which is probably why I should just animate IzzynJean soon..

If Obvious Child is my favorite romcom of the 2010s, my favorite of all time set in NYC starring the legend herself Cher. Perfect casting and heart thumping chemistry, scene stealing side characters. Unlike many romcoms it rejects a woman molding herself to "win" a man, saying she deserves better.

If you're like "but I want hoity-toity NYC Preppies debating about love, friendship and money" do yourself a favor and watch Whit Sitllman's Metropolitan instead. Sparkling performances by Carolyn Farina, Chris Eigeman, and Taylor Nichols and some of the best dialogue ever committed to screen.

Moving into some rom coms about NYC that I LOVE directed by dudes, easily They All Laughed by Peter Boganovich. Also about money, dating, fidelity in the Big Apple-except well executed unlike The Materialists.
One of the most delightful soundtracks of any film set in the city.

To me there is still no better romantic comedy of past 15 yrs than Gillian Robespierre's masterwork Obvious Child. After so many years of aspirational romcom what a joy to see a similar fail daughter go through a completely normal medical procedure with a supportive partner in tow.
