A medieval philosopher once wrote a simple formula that I will spend the rest of my life trying to understand if I have to. I still don't know how he arrived at this conclusion.

"Existence is good."
الوجود خير

Just made my first publication available publicly(!) My chapter examines how philosophers in the world of medieval Islam conceived of and articulated their belief that God is self-loving.

Divine Love in Medieval Islamic Philosophy: Some Stages in the History of an Attribute
An examination of an argument among Greek-inspired philosophers of medieval Islam which purports to demonstrate that divine love is reflexive, i.e. that God loves Himself. Murtha, Colin Fitzpatrick. “...

The task of philosophy can't be to raise only one single question since this one question of philosophy would have to go unquestioned.

I used to think that any x that must be the case is inherently a good thing. After studying Avicenna's philosophy for 8+ years now I realize that there is only 1 thing that must be the case and it's not a thing.

Stand with the oppressed against the oppressor. Heal with the broken against those who seek to break you.

Committing to an act that is intrinsically good (despite the potential for experiencing pain as a result) is better than acting out of fear of something intrinsically bad (even if one avoids pain as a result). Love is a better modus operandi than fear.

Alienation of a polymath (11th c.)

فيسنح له تعريج
عن عالم الزور
إلى عالم الحقّ مستقرّ به
و يحتفّ حوله الغافلون

A passage is offered to him
away from the world of falsehood
to the world of truth to dwell therein
all the while surrounded by the ignorant around him.
