Bizzarre sight of Benevento Appia in 2021.
Train service withdrawn overnight after derailment.
Track ripped up leaving old vehicles in depots & platforms!
Now closed 5 years with new trains, but no sign of a service.

🇮🇹 Naples EAV, city-owned train operator struggles with Circumvesuviana, 30% fleet availablity & new Stadler trains stuck in Spain...

FPV - First person view. You use a headset to fly the drone & can manouver it moving your head, like you're flying with the drone.
Rather than a regular handset & joystick.

An FPV fly through of the tower block that will remain.
The close living was to reflect that of central Naples, but didn't work in a tower block.

A drone fly around of the last 2 blocks of the Vele di Scampia.
Must have looked modern and progressive on a 1960 drawing board...

🇮🇹 Naples' "Vele di Scampia/Sails of Scampia". A 1960s housing scheme of 7 tower blocks.
But became notorious for crime, drugs, mafia & film Gomorrah.

🚁 Took drone to record the final block being demolished.
One tower retained & refurbished for a service centre. 1,250 low rise homes on cleared site.

Renovations by #FondazioneFS of a vintage DMU/ALn 772 have revealed scars of its early life in Italy.
Bullet holes have been revealed in the side of the 1936 built vehicle.
Bringing vehicles back to life means recognising & preserving history for generations of today and tomorrow.

"The freight train was drunk"

Yes, these auto translations have a lot to learn!
December 11, 2025 at 1:49 PM
Another in the series “I can’t believe that potential train disaster actually happened…”

“Drunk freight train driver ignores a red light and multiple calls from control centre: overhead power must be cut off to stop it”
- Italian train in Austria!

Public holiday in Italy, Immaculate Conception Day & start of Christmas festivities.
Good excuse to run a train of 1930/50s carriages & 1970 loco from Napoli Centrale to Pietrarsa, for the superb National Railway Museum.

🎞️🍿 A film with Italy's iconic Harlequin train, Tuscan scenery & George Clooney - a blockbuster combination.
But Netflix 'Jay Kelly' doesn't quite hit the mark.

🚇🇮🇹 Visiting Naples' new Monte Sant'Angelo station & new Line 7.

Public art & transport come together in this amazing station by the university.
Good to see a basic service despite line & 4 stations incomplete, while GB struggles with no trains on open E-W Rail.

2 min of fame on my BBC local radio station ‘Ask the Mayor’ spot… “What’s happening with Leeds’ White Rose station??!”

A politicians word salad answer
“I share your frustration”
“Private contractor & British Rail”
“Before my time”
“Never do this again”
“Washing machine of lawyers”
“Down to others…”
