I join the Mayor, City Council, city leaders, union leaders, and community members in expressing my deepest outrage and concern at the immigration raids, militarized tactics, and terror experienced by Los Angeles.

We will not stand for this.

Here's to Leland. May we forever celebrate and remember his life of kindness, compassion, wit, moral clarity, creativity and adventure, and goofy voices and silly sound effects.

I miss you Amigo, we all do. ❤️

And sometimes I'll laugh, remembering the ways that Leland took up space in this world, for a brief but incredible time, making people smile, making them think, making them believe in themselves and others, and making people laugh.

And sometimes, Leland's ability to speak out just made you laugh. The out loud from the belly kind of laugh. Aside from being a practical joker and full of Dad jokes, Leland was always quick with a comeback and ready to fill an uncomfortable (or comfortable) silence with a joke or four.
April 21, 2025 at 2:12 AM
As a lot of his friends remember, Leland wasn't afraid to speak out. Sometimes it inspired you to be a better friend, a better person. Sometimes it made you look inward, at an age when many of us weren't necessarily ready or mature enough to do so.

He was an old soul & at the same time always two steps ahead, learning about trends, adapting and growing with the times. He understood the implications of national & international politics & was not afraid to speak up and out in defense of change, in defense of the defenseless.

24 years ago, the world became a dimmer place when we lost the brilliant light and spark of Leland Rioth.

As many of us remember him, and as we have passed on to our loved ones and friends since then, Leland was a thoughtful, forward thinking, inclusive, and fiercely supportive friend.

Damnatio Memoriae:

Like the insecure mad little kings, tyrants, and dictators of old, this 5th Avenue fascist is trying to destroy and erase history.

To every museum, library, and archive: this is the moment you hide the Mona Lisa. Don’t wait. Your duty is to humanity & history. Not to a despot.

Tense moment right now outside our window. Several LAPD with weapons drawn shouting orders at two individuals, one who didn’t understand English. We asked if it was ICE enforcement and one LEO said it was stolen vehicle. Kept video running but sharing this clip to not show faces in close up.

“If the executive can defy court orders whenever they feel like it, they are essentially not constrained by the Constitution and the laws anymore,"

This is chilling. We are at a precipice.

Pope Francis had a good tenth night in the hospital. “On Sunday evening, the Holy See Press Office said his condition remains critical, though he has not experienced any respiratory crises since Saturday morning.”

THE TWO POPES is a provocative examination of the types of people Joseph Ratzinger and Jorge Mario Bergoglio were and how their own experiences and philosophies would shape the second largest religion in the world at a key moment in history

One is a humble servant.
The other was Pope Benedict XVI.

We all saw how Secret Service paid 2 million dollars to Michael Bay to do a recruitment commercial during the Super Bowl pregame, right?

How much is 2 million in USAID worth? How many prosthetic limbs, lands mines cleared, shots in arms?
