Given how many people cycle in the Netherlands, even with overall great infrastructure, statistically, accidents will happen. Hopefully injuries were not severe!

Yes. The thing that I find most worrying is that, as the author argues, very little seems to really move the voters’ needle/approval. Not even the economy as in: ‘it’s the economy, stupid’. Hope I’m wrong.

At least it will be harder to say “oh that’s great but that wouldn’t work in the US” 😎

I’m an equal opportunity devourer of oliebollen, with or without raisins, sukade, etc and especially apple beignets 😍

A very productive year! Looking forward to seeing more in 2026 (especially Den Bosch, of course 😉)

Content creation is a lot of work, especially video. You don’t owe the world … allow yourself a break to look forward to your family expansion… call it ‘parental leave’ 😎

Absolutely, massive challenges! I take hope from how much my home country has changed, and keeps changing every few years I visit! Also seeing accounts like @americanfietser.bsky.social Start small, do what you can, chat to friends/family/colleagues & enjoy a win however small. Also #notjustbikes

That does sound like it may not work for your set of circumstances… however I believe that in most countries there is a lot of opportunity that is not currently explored. I currently use a mix of bike, bus and car in Australia - would bike more but for infrastructure deficits.

When I grew up in the Netherlands (1970s/1980s) sharing with cars was def a problem. Gov investment over years mostly took care of that. Then worked 60kms away. Took bike to train station (5 mins), 30 mins on train, and 10 mins on another bike at other end. Can be done but requires policy!

Yep, was still cycling on what turned out to be my son’s date of birth 😅. I reckon cycling helps you be in better condition for delivery. All the best for next few months Mrs American Fietser!

Used to live nearby. It’s been such a complete transformation.

Fruit fly exclusion zones still a thing in South Australia as of April this year! But thanks for the great list - learned some new words/expressions.

Even fietsers are occasionally allowed a break from fietsen 🚲
