You know, being in my Top 5 two years later ain't bad!

Of course to reach the Emerald City one must follow the yellow brick road: here lies a heap of yellow books I'm looking forward to reading in the near future plus a few I've already really enjoyed!

I've pulled out some options for the first leg of the Amazing Readathon: a book with green on the cover is my ticket to to the Emerald City!

But now to just pick one.. 🤔

The Incandescent is one of those rare works of fiction that I'm certain I will want to revisit in the future—maybe at a time when I need to find a new path or contemplate my place in the world at large, or when I simply need a reminder that not all children are devil's spawn.

Releasing today! 🪶

It took over two months to receive my Broken Binding Sci-Fi Sub invite—which is NOTHING compared to the Fantasy Sub, that one can take years!

I've been craving more sci-fi lately so this came at the perfect time, PLUS Doomsday Book by Connie Willis was already sitting in my virtual to be read pile

This prioritization-based-on-#-days-past-watering-day strat might have actually *increased* the # of plants being neglected since I ended up only watering the most desperate.. Oops

Now we try grouping by how often each plant requires water. Having to water ~20 plants max at a time seems reasonable!
March 10, 2025 at 11:49 PM
Watering has gotten to the point that I categorize each plant based on how many days past due for water they are.. (5, 10, 15+, etc.) These poor guys have been dealing with my bullshit for MONTHS 🥲

Coming in at a whopping 1:37 minutes in length, I just KNEW the backrooms was going to take the cake. It's a good song but it surely wasn't the one I spent the most time with..

That could only be @ashellinthepit.bsky.social's Ghost on the Road from the Pacific Drive soundtrack 😍

prompt / title contains the term for a family relationship

hard mode / trees appear on the cover

Let me introduce the most *family relationship* book out there: a short story collection where nearly half the titles meet the h.m. requirement 👏 PLUS folklore from around the world!

And last but not least! The first chapter of Jack Campbell's *In Our Stars* was action packed! The end of the earth! Time travel! A spaceship torn to shreds! An unlikely survivor! A space rescue! Aliens! A plan to save Earth from certain doom! Surely this pace can't continue the entire book.. but???

*Service Model* by Adrian Tchaikovsky is one of those stories that will live in your head rent free. There's something darkly hilarious about an android being annoyed at having to perform tedious, redundant tasks and then accidentally going rogue by discovering a (violent) solution to this problem.
July 9, 2024 at 2:23 AM
*The Tainted Cup* by Robert Jackson Bennett felt the most unique out of everything I read: unique magics, unique yet relatable characters, unique ways to die (for example, in this first case, spontaneous arboreal combustion), etc. Very atmospheric. I most definitely want to read on!
July 9, 2024 at 2:17 AM
*The Fireborne Blade* by Charlotte Bond has a rather short first chapter and yet there was time to slay a dragon, dissolve a foot, and establish a fantastically strong bond between knight and squire. So good! Released last month
July 9, 2024 at 2:14 AM
*The Warded Gunslinger* by Filip Wiltgren had me hooked IMMEDIATELY! The writing quality is top-tier and reading through the first chapter was like catching up with an old friend after a long absence: it felt like I've always known and understood this world and all its motivations.

Lev Grossman's upcoming release, *The Bright Sword*, is a girthy one but if the rest of the book is as interesting as the first chapter, it'll be well worth the time invested. I wanted a dark Arthurian epic and I think *The Bright Sword* is going to deliver! Releases July 17th.
July 9, 2024 at 2:02 AM
*The Lost Story* by Meg Shaffer has such an intriguing premise and the best prologue. It's quickly established that these two lost boys have experienced something horrific and otherworldly and I NEED TO KNOW MORE! This one is releasing July 17th!
July 9, 2024 at 1:58 AM
The absolute best of the bunch was Johanna van Veen's *My Darling Dreadful Thing*! So quickly it was established that this story is going to be dark and creepy and AMAZING! Gothic horror at its finest; I got goosebumps from the first chapter alone! Plus, that cover art is killer!

Potting up season is going to be *so* satisfying this year.

My library book strategy is to borrow every book I come across that's on my to-read list (so, like.. around 50 atm) and then when deciding what to read next I just go for whichever book isn't going to automatically renew because someone else placed it on hold.

It's surely not the *worst* strategy..

Okay I'm giving myself until the end of the day to finish this book. I started The Moth Keeper in September of last year and I should have put it down ages ago.

DNF MORE BOOKS!

So far The Lost Apothecary is not at all what I expected (I was under the impression that this was more fantasy than historical fiction) but I'm really enjoying it nonetheless.

A strong start to 2024! Let's go!

I'm nearly done fixing up my game library spreadsheet and I.. I am SO sorry to any Steam friends that actually pay attention to their friend activity feed.

I seem to form new philosophies on how to best approach <insert task here> on the daily. 🥲
